IN support of Camilla Jarvis’s letter in the May 11 issue, I would like to add that I live in Shalford, within the speed limit zone of 30mph which is preceded by a 40mph zone, neither of which seem to make the slightest bit of difference to the speeds that any number of vehicles from large lorries to motor bikes, even tractors with large trailers full of manure seem to reach.

Maybe they don’t realise that the 30 and 40 mph signs indicate the maximum speed and not the minimum.

It is not only at weekends that the circuit is used but continually throughout the week finalising with the time and speed trials on a Sunday, with anything up to 12 motorbikes at time reaching estimated speeds of 60 plus mph.

Any luckless person attempting to pull their car off their drive or exit from a side road doesn’t stand a chance, a pedestrian would have to be pretty nimble to avoid being knocked down and the effect on horses being scared by the speeding vehicles suddenly appearing, doesn’t bear thinking about (unless you grow roses).

Most drivers at some time have failed to adhere to the speed limits and some have suffered the consequences and some get away with it, only to continue to breaking the limit time and time again.

As requested in the previous letter, please can we have Police patrols be- fore there are any more fatalities.

Maybe speed traps would solve the problem and the resultant penalties go towards a positive addition to Diane Abbott’s Police funding calcultions.
