A DRINK driver has been banned from the road for three years after being caught over the limit twice within six months.

Rebecca Brown, 30, lost control of her Peugeot 207 on Great Bentley Road on November 13 last year and crashed into a ditch on a farmer’s field.

She was taken to Colchester General Hospital and a blood test revealed she had 120mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Whilst on bail, she was pulled over while driving the same car in Sheepen Road, Colchester, on May 2.

When breathalysed she gave a reading of 46mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Brown, of Springham Drive, Colchester, had planned to deny the initial incident and claim she had drunk alcohol between the crash and the test, but admitted both counts of driving while above the drink drive limit at a Colchester Magistrates’ Court hearing yesterday.

Between the two incidents she was also arrested for possession of cannabis after officers found eight plants growing at her home. She has already been sentenced separately for that offence.

Caroline Woodley, mitigating, said Brown had been the victim of domestic violence.

She said: “In November her ex-partner had just been released from prison and she was nervous about him seeing her children and had been drinking with a friend.

“In May her current boyfriend asked her to take him out and she did not want to refuse him.

“She had been drinking beforehand.”

Magistrates banned mother-of-three Brown from driving for three years and gave her a six-month community order which includes 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She must also pay £395.
