A RESOURCEFUL young girl will sell her toys and cut her hair to raise the money needed to get her to the dance performance of her dreams.

Lily-May Jacombs, eight, jumped for joy when she found out she had earned a place to perform in a London show through her dance school.

The excited youngster attends Boogie Shoes Dance Academy, based in Ramsey.

The show will be staged at Sadler’s Wells Theatre and will feature 40 hand-picked students from the school.

Lily-May will be dancing to songs from the hit films Dirty Dancing and High School Musical.

She needed to raise £130 to be able to afford audition fees, two outfits and transport to and from the theatre.

Louise Jacombs, Lily-May’s mother, said: “Sadly Lily has never been to the theatre so it’s all new to her, but she knows it a chance to perform on a big stage in front of many people and is very excited about this.

“She was so excited when she found out she got the place she cried and hugged me then screamed, jumped up and down and asked to phone nanny and her dad to tell them.

“Everyone is so pleased for her. Before Lily auditioned I had explained to her that I am still unwell and unable to work and it’s a lot for me to pay out, so I mentioned that we would have to try fundraising some of the money if she got a place.

“I asked her about ideas and she said one of her teachers was talking about donating hair to charity.

“She offered to do so, so I agreed.”

Louise, of Fronks Road, Dovercourt, added: “She also said she could give her toys and books to children who need them.

“I told her we would do two bags of toys and books and one bag full of clothes, otherwise she would have donated everything.

“This was all her own idea and I am so proud of her.”

After hitting her target, any additional donations will go towards a new dance outfit and shoes.

The dancing prodigy will have her hair cut on Friday, March 31, and will donate the bags of toys, books and clothes to a charity shop of her choice.
