THE MOTHER of a boy who was knocked down in a road accident said he has been left with serious injuries.

Hayden Kempster, of Allectus Way in Witham, was knocked down by a taxi in his road on February 28.

The 12-year-old pupil from New Rickstones Academy suffered an open laceration to his leg.

His mum, Hayley-Marie Wooldridge, said: "I was first aware of what happened when a lady knocked on the door and said in a very worried voice that my son had been run over.

"I first thought she had got the wrong house, then she said his name and complete panic and shock took over."

She ran to her son, who was sitting up, but she said he was screaming.

She said: "He was saying his bone was out of his leg and then I was scared, especially when his foot went blue in the ambulance.

"He had no blood going to his foot, thankfully the air ambulance arrived and managed to get the bone moved slightly.

"I was petrified he would lose his foot, or even worse, his leg.

"The full extent of his injuries was an open laceration to his leg where the broken bone came through, which required a plate and screws.

"There was a big chunk out of his lip which required surgery to stitch it back together."

Hayden has a review at the hospital at the end of April, and has been told he cannot go back to school until he gets the go-ahead from his consultant.

His mum said: "It's affected him considerably as at the start he was very ill from the antibiotics.

"He has had nightmares about not being able to walk and losing out massively on his education.

"We are pretty much housebound, which doesn't just affect him, but it affects me and his baby sister."

She felt the road was far too fast and there are not enough places to cross.

She said: "It's a danger for everyone trying to cross, I feel this road needs a crossing to make it safer for all pedestrians and road users.

"I understand people living here have to park as there is a parking issue, but at the moment most road users have to go on the wrong side of the road to manoeuvre around the parked cars, which was an accident waiting to happen, and it did."
