TRIBUTES have been paid to a brave youngster whose last wish to be buried with his mother will be granted after he sadly died.

Little Filip Kwansy lost his battle with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Filip, seven, wanted to be laid to rest alongside his mother Agnieszka, who died from cancer in 2011. She is buried in her home village of Wadowice in Poland.

Filip said he thought she could look after him in heaven.

Generous donors have been able to grant the wish of the Friars Grove Primary School pupil after raising £41,000.

His dad Piotr, who lives in Colchester, thanked everyone who had donated.

He said: “My little boy has now gone, there will forever be an emptiness beside me and in my heart, but he will never be forgotten and he will always be loved.

“I really appreciate all the support from the public and from JustGiving which is going to enable me to fulfil Filip’s wish of being put to rest next to his mother.”

Filip was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1 when he was two, a condition causing tumours to grow on the nerves.

He initially recovered but his health began to fail again in September last year and treatment including a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy failed.

The cancer then spread to his intestines.

For the last few weeks, doctors have only been administrating palliative care to try to manage the pain and make Filip as comfortable as possible.

As Piotr, 40, is unable to work because of ill health including spina bifida, diabetes, hypertension and the fact he only has one kidney, the family initially set out to raise £6,500 to fund Filip’s burial wish of lying next to his mum.

However, donations grew to more than £40,000.

Agnieszka was just 33 when she died of sarcoma - a rare form of cancer which affects connective tissue.

It was discovered in a large growth in her neck after she collapsed on the street and then spread to the rest of her body.

Filip’s fundraising page has now been closed.

A spokesman for JustGiving Rhys Goode said he was pleased to be able to help the family.

He said: “Knowing you are losing a child is devastating, but knowing that you are financially unable to fulfil their last wish must be shattering.

“We are so pleased the JustGiving community came together to enable Filip to fulfil his last wish.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”
