A BIN lorry rescued a man walking across The Strood at high tide.
The Colchester Council refuse workers drove into the high tide on Thursday lunchtime after they spotted the man getting into difficulty.
He was trying to get onto Mersea at the time, but witnesses said they saw him fall into the water several times before the refuse collectors went to his rescue.
He was taken back to Colchester by the crew after bystanders gave the man safety advice and checked him over.
