A MAN who changed his name by deed poll to Obi-Mark Kenobi abused his neighbour after months of arguments over rubbish in a communal area.

In the latest in a series of disagreements between Kenobi and his neighbour Sheralyn Silester, the 45-year-old launched a verbal tirade, attacking the disabled woman’s American accent after she had asked him to keep the noise down in his flat through a communal intercom.

When she re-entered the block of flats, Kenobi began launched the abuse, which only stopped when a neighbour stepped out from her front door and screamed: “Leave her alone.”

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard a fight between Kenobi and the neighbour ensued - though no charges have been been brought - as innocent Miss Silester called the police.

When officers arrived at the flats, in Station Road, Clacton, bloodied Kenobi abused them and claimed he had been the victim of an assault with an iron bar.

As he was being arrested, he kicked out at an officer and also thrust the hand cuffs he was wearing into the officer’s face.

Unemployed Kenobi was yesterday convicted of assaulting a police officer and using threatening and abusive behaviour on March 20.

Magistrates ordered him to be at home, in Holland Road, Holland-on-Sea, between 7pm and 7am every day for three months. He was also handed a six-month community order and must carry out ten days of rehabilitation.

Kenobi was told by magistrates: “Your language and actions were not acceptable and we deem them to be abusive. We believe the history relates to other related incidents which had led to the deterioration of their neighbourly relationship.”

He was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the injured officer as well as £300 court costs. Kenobi was also banned from contacting Miss Silester for 12-months.
