TOWN hall clock faces look set to be spruced up.
Colchester Council has applied to itself to replace the three clock faces at the top of the Victorian tower on the buildings with perspex to replace the current glass fittings.
It is proposed that while work is underway, the dials would be taken to a workshop for restoration including repainting and cleaning.
According to a heritage statement prepared to support the plans, the new perspex would significantly reduce the possibility of future breakage and reduce the need for maintenance in the future.
It is believed the change to perspex would not be noticeable from the ground.
The plans have to be rubber stamped by the council’s planning committee and a decision is expected to be made by June 16.
