COUNCILLORS are set to approve a report laying out what facilities should be provided in the £25million refurbishment at Riverside.

The report on the project, which Chelmsford Council says will “provide the best leisure offer to the most people”, is due to be discussed at a full Chelmsford Council meeting next Wednesday.

It sets out a list of facilities which are recommended for inclusion in the revamp, including a 25m by ten lane pool with moveable floor, alearner pool with splash and sensory zone, aflume ride,a300-seat spectator zone, 120-station gym, a spin studio and a creche.

An outdoor pool and diving pool are not included in the proposed plans, with the council claiming they would not be financially viable.

The project, which the council hopes to complete by February 2018, has been hit by delays of up to six months after a potential conflict of interest by one of the bidding design teams was identified.

The council terminated the existing tendering process and will restart it, with high hopes a team will be in place early next year.

Councillors have been recommended to agree the proposed list of facilities at the full council meeting on Wednesday.
