Braintree's best-known landmarks have been immortalised in wool after a Women’s Institute group
embarked on a seven-month knitting project.

Dolphin WI, which meets at Bocking End Community Centre, took on the mammoth task of creating seven miniature buildings, including St Michael’s Church and the Town Hall, to mark the WI’s Centenary year.

After taking up their needles in January, the woolly Braintree, complete with colourful market stalls, Braintree station, and the Swan pub, has taken shape just in time for the WI birthday on September 16.

The woollen town is being displayed in the old Phones 4 U shop, in George Yard, for a week and will be displayed in Braintree Museum later this year.
