A CAR wash owner has said she did not cover up the sign above her business because customers thought it stood for terrorist organisation Islamic State.

The sign above the car wash in Railway Street, Braintree, had appeared to read ‘Welcome to IS’ before the owners covered it with masking tape last week.

Owner Naxhie Ahmeti, who is originally from Albania, said she had taken the business over a year ago from someone with the initials JS.

In 2013, the full sign read: “Welcome to JS, the best hand car wash in town.”

She said: “When we made the door bigger it cut off part of the J. Now we have covered it up because we are JAB Ltd.

“It makes me so angry that anyone would think that.”

However, a worker at the site said at least one customer had commented on the sign, prompting the decision to cover it up.
