HISTORY buffs were given a special tour around Harwich’s oldest buildings.

Frinton and Walton Heritage Trust visited the town as guests of the Harwich Society, which owns and runs a number of historic sites, including the Redoubt Fort and High Lighthouse.

After a guided walk, the 17 members were given a special look inside Foresters, thought to be one of the oldest buildings in Harwich.

They then stepped onboard the LV18, the last manned lightship, now moored at the Quay.

Harwich Society president Bernie Sadler said: “We have enjoyed a close relationship with the Frinton and Walton Heritage Trust for many years and it is always a pleasure to meet up.

"It was the first time they had toured Foresters, which they found particularly interesting, and the LV18 light vessel is now another gem in Harwich’s tourism offer.

“With so much history on our doorstep, you don’t need to travel long distances to find something fascinating.”
