AFTER years of waiting, there seems to be progress on the redevelopment of the Cowdray Centre, Colchester.

The site has been underused since it was ravaged by fire nearly a decade ago. It is a prime site, close to the station and the centre of town.

Now plans have been unveiled for a mixture of homes, units and a doctors’ surgery.

It might be argued Colchester has enough houses, but it might also be argued, if they have to go somewhere, this site might be a contender.

And the suggestion of a doctors'

surgery to allieviate the pressure on facilites is certainly welcome.

Investment is good for the town, good for its economy and its vitality. Time will tell if this development is right.
