Friends of a talented teenage musician killed in a head-on car crash will hold a music concert in his memory.

The music department at the College in Braintree are organising a fundraiser for tragic James Simmons, 18, a pupil at the college, who died at the scene of a car crash in Braintree Road, Gosfield, on December 7.

His friend Coz Powell, 21, of Gosfield, also died along with the driver of the other car, David Bradley, of Beckers Green Road, Braintree.

James, of Hillside Gardens, Braintree, was the rear seat passenger in a Volkswagen Polo, which was in collision with a Ford Fiesta.

Richard Nolan, course leader for the Extended Diploma in Music Technology, which James was studying, is organising the concert at the college on May 16.

It will feature bands and soloists from the college and Braintree Sound Academy, which provides free music lessons for young people, operating from Braintree Foyer.

The money raised will be given to Jill and Mike Simmons, James’ parents, to donate to the charity of their choice.
