A CLACTON fishmonger netted himself an award after sailing into the finals of a prestigious competition.

Ken Green Fish, based in High Street, was runner-up in the East of England Co-op’s Producer of the Year’ awards.

He was beaten into second place for the Essex prize by spud growers Fairfields Farm, near Colchester.

Ken and stepson Paul Self, who also works for the family-run business, received their award from BBC Essex gardening expert Ken Crowther.

A record-breaking 13,500 votes were cast by members of the public.

Ken has been in the fishing business all his life and started trading more than 65 years ago.

He has been supplying smoked fish to the Co-op for the past five years.
