A YOUNG mum claims her family are having to live in the front room of their flat after the bedroom was flooded by sewage.

Summer Dean, 18, said a blocked pipe had led to the toilet overflowing on Boxing Day.

She managed to clear up the mess, but had to throw out 14-month-old baby Lily-Mae’s cot, bedding and Christmas presents because they were contaminated.

A few days later, there was a repeat flood.

Summer, who is expecting her second baby in March, is terrified the flat will flood again, so is now living in the front room of the ground-floor flat with partner Benjamin.

She sleeps on a blow-up bed while Lily-Mae has a travel cot.

“We’re living in the front room and haven’t got a bed – it’s ridiculous," said Summer. “We can’t flush the toilet or have a bath or shower."

The unit, in St Paul’s Road, is run by the Family Mosaic housing association, which is now working with contractors to rectify the maintenance issue as soon as possible.

A spokesman said: “We are looking into replacing Ms Dean’s damaged possessions and have offered alternative accommodation within the scheme while this work is carried out, which Ms Dean has chosen not to accept.”

Summer now wants rehousing in a council property.

A Tendring Council spokesman said it was waiting for a suitable property for Summer and her family and added she was a high priority on its housing list for a two-bedroom home.
