SCHOOLCHILDREN have been treading the boards at a Clacton theatre to learn more about the way it works.

The year-six youngsters from Great Bentley Primary School have been writing their own play scripts and jumped at the chance to visit Clacton’s council-run Princes Theatre.

Staff were on hand to teach the children about everything from stage directions and sound to set lighting.

Theatre manager Kai Aberdeen was also put on the spot as students asked him a reel of creative questions, including the details of how stage pyrotechnics work.

Tendring Council culture boss Mark Platt said: “I’m keen for us to undertake many more workshops and I’m very pleased the children had so much fun while learning new skills at the same time.”
