A WEEK-long project to resurface a pothole-riddled stretch of the A120 has come to an emergency stop after major complaints over the road diversion.

Drivers claimed the trunk road diversion was causing late-night village tailbacks and forcing lorries to mount the pavement to try to squeeze through narrow streets.

The A120 between Horsley Cross and Ramsey had been closed to traffic between 8pm and 6am on Monday and Tuesday as highways workers began resurfacing the road.

The diversion saw all traffic on the A120 from Horsley Cross or Harwich sent via Mistley, Bradfield and Ramsey, with the work set to finish on Saturday.

But after complaints from residents, work was brought to a sudden stop on Wednesday.

A Highways Agency spokeswoman said: “We’ve decided to re-evaluate the scheme and have suspended work while this is carried out.”
