Work to improve drainage in Feering will start on Monday.
The work aims to reduce surface water in Coggeshall Road following downpours after a large pipe, which allows water to flow under the road to the north of the rail bridge, has collapsed.
The work will replace the damaged pipe to help manage local surface water issues.
The road will be closed from Monday for five days, 24 hours a day.
Traffic will be diverted along Coggeshall Road, Feering Road, Colchester Road, the A120, Coggeshall Road, the A12, B1024 London Road, B1024 Coggeshall Road.
Councillor Eddie Johnson, portfolio holder for highways maintenance and small schemes, said: “The repair work will cause some disruption but we have established an alternative route for drivers.
“It is important the work is carried out to minimise further damage to the roads and rail bridge in Feering.”
