A NEW group has been launched in Thorpe to provide girlguiding activities for youngsters.

The village already has popular Brownie and Guide units, but a Rainbow group will now be created for the first time in the area.

It will be open to girls aged five to seven and members will get the chance to take part in activities from arts and crafts to cooking, as well as working towards achievement badges.

Leaders Carol Minter and Donna Bond approached the district commissioner for Frinton earlier this year and have worked hard to set it up.

Carol said: “We are local to Thorpe and have many years of Guiding experience between us.

“As far as we know there has never been a Rainbow unit in Thorpe, and we thought that it was about time to open one to enable more girls to have the experiences and opportunities Guiding brings.

“It is lovely to see the girls make friends and learn new interests. We really hope that parents will support our new venture."

The leaders will be helped by three adult volunteers.
