THE masterplan for a £10million scheme to revive Jaywick should be ready by the end of the year after decades of “hollow promises”.

Last week Tendring Council agreed to move forward with a bid to buy a massive 60-acre plot between Triumph Avenue and Meadow Way in Jaywick.

Town Hall bosses plan to kick-start regeneration of the area – officially the most deprived ward in the country – by building up to 250 high quality new homes.

Council leader Mick Page has now confirmed he hopes to have detailed plans on the table by 2015. He said: “As soon as we have the land in our possession, we will be in straight away with the bulldozers.

"I hope to have plans on the table by the end of the year and I will be talking to Essex County Council about achieving the necessary infrastructure.”

Mr Page admitted Jaywick residents had been let down in the past by “repeated hollow promises” which had “demonstrated our failure as civic leaders to deliver lasting change”.

“We have now taken the lead in driving forward a broad new approach by working directly with local landholders and landlords to assemble a pipeline of potential development sites,” he said.

It has also been confirmed the newly-built flood-resistant homes will be made available to current Jaywick residents first. Council housing boss Paul Honeywood said the homes should be for local people who currently live in unsuitable homes.
