PLUCKY competitors braved the mud to really get stuck into Manningtree’s annual regatta.

Races both on the water and through the mud along the River Stour were the highlights across the two day event.

Organised by the Stour Sailing Club, it took place from their Quay Street headquarters last weekend.

Across the weekend, there were boat races on the river, and mud races and beach sports, with a tug-of-war and race across the river.

Saturday evening was rounded off by a magnificent firework display.

The men’s tug of war was won by Rose Builders and the woman’s tug of war by Brantham A137.

Club secretary Stephen Hopkins, said: “It was a fantastic weekend.

“We had enough wind out there for some decent sailing, the fireworks were spectacular, and the beached was filled on Sunday morning with people watching the tug of war.”

He added: “We had a tug of war rope for the children to use on the beach and they took on two of the Rose Builders team and annihilated them.”
