A father-of-two is feeling honoured after being asked to create a mosaic for the entrance of Chelmsford Cathedral.

Peter Harrington, who is in his 50s, has been a mosaic artist since 1994.

He said: "I started out doing pottery and I started creating mosaics after being taught by a friend in return for me teaching him pottery."

Mr Harrington, of Chipping Hill, Halstead, explained that he was approached by Chelmsford Cathedral to make a six feet by four and a half feet mosaic for the porch of the cathedral.

He said: "They had seen some of my work previously and invited me to a meeting to discuss my plans.

"When I said I would involve the community in the making of the mosaic they were very excited."
