VOLUNTEERS from a shop community scheme swapped their pricing guns for paint brushes to help renovate a historic lighthouse.

Store managers from One Stop shops across North Essex and Suffolk spent Tuesday, August 26 in Harwich cleaning and painting the High Lighthouse.

Recently taken over by the Harwich Society, the iconic building is in need of some minor repars.

The 14 volunteers repainted the inside walls and wooden fixtures kick starting the improvement works.

Sue Daish, the society's lighthouse keeper, said: "We still have some work to but this was a great start to help us.

"Now we want to repair some brickwork, finish painting as well as paint the floors and varnish the counter and we can start to think about what we want to put in it."
