ENTERTAINING children for the six weeks holiday is a challenge for every parent.
While there are holiday clubs and activity days, the summer break can pose numerous childcare problems, with some full-time workers struggling to get through.
But the traditional long break could soon be a thing of the past, if a new Government bill is given the go-ahead.
The bill, giving individual schools the power to set their own term times, is currently going through Parliament and could see summer holidays slashed.
Rachel Sullivan Griggs, of Harwich, has a ten-year-old daughter, Neve.
The 43-year-old currently has to organise six weeks of childcare while she works at Morrisons during the break. “It would give us working parents less time to worry about organising child care for six weeks,” she said.
“It’s a nightmare. I do school hours, so the holidays are a real problem for parents when both parents work.
“It’s the 21st century. Six weeks is too long. Kids get bored and don’t want to go back after such a long time off.”
