PLANS to change a former school into a multiple occupancy house have been turned down amid concerns it would not be sustainable.

Tendring Council’s planning officers refused permission to change the use of Jacques Hall School in Harwich Road, Bradfield. The planning decision report said: “The proposal would have some economic benefit, albeit slight.

“In terms of social aspects, shelter would be provided to satisfy a basic human need and shared facilities could assist in fostering a sense of well-being.

“However, the site is remote and not accessible by public transport.

“Residents would be isolated with little access to services and facilities other than by private transport and a high level of car dependency is likely.

“On balance, the proposed development would not be sustainable.”
