A TENDRING crematorium has been entered into a prestigious gardening competition for the first time.

Weeley Crematorium will be inspected by judges for this year’s Anglia in Bloom contest.

The site, run by Tendring Council, already boasts a Green Flag award marking it as a top-rated public space.

It will now go up against the top floral displays and green spaces across the region in the annual Anglia in Bloom competition.

The crematorium is maintained by one full-time gardener, who is helped by the council’s open spaces team and volunteers from the community, including local schoolchildren.

Council deputy leader Nick Turner said: “Tendring Council takes great care and pleasure in all its green spaces and Weeley Crematorium is no exception.

“They are a real credit to all those who play a part in helping to maintain them and they are something we should be really proud of.”
