Royal Navy explodes bomb off Burnham coastline
A CONTROLLED explosion has been carried out on a wartime mine found near Burnham.
Thames Coastguard called in a team of Royal Navy experts after the device was dredged up in the nets of a small fishing vessel.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Navy said the device, a British buoyant mine, was discovered 3.7 miles from the town's coastline.
A 500 metre cordon was set up around the mine and regular warnings were broadcast to keep boats away from the area.
It was detonated at 10.30am on Thursday May 15.
The spokeswoman added: "There was not a large explosion as the main charge had already degraded.
"This was a routine call for us as wartime mines are often found off the English coast."

What the bomb or Burnham? Makes you wonder just how many more WW2 + unexploded munitions are lying waiting in the Crouch Estuary and off Foulness Island. Hey… what even happened to the dates/times that used to appear in the M&BS letting locals know when the MOD were playing or practicing at the range?
