AFTER-EIGHT SOCIAL CLUB

If you live in and around the Maldon area and would like to extend your social life then come along to one of our events.

We organise varied activities every month throughout the year. These events are open to members and non-members.

Everyone is welcome.

Having just celebrated the clubs 30th anniversary with a dance and buffet at Maldon Town Saville Suite the club looks set for the next 30 years! Around 100 members and friends joined us for a great evening.

The following week we travelled to London to spend the day at Greenwich. Although the weather could have been kinder, there was plenty to see and do.

Some forthcoming dates that may be of interest to you: Saturday May 10, social evening at The Bull Inn, Great Totham. Just come along for a drink and a chat. Saturday May 17, Quiz Night at Langford Village Hall.

No problem if you are on your own, we make up tables of up to six people so it's a good way to meet people. Admission £2.50 Bring your own drinks and eats - we'll put on the crisps and nuts.

On Saturday May 24 it's disco night at Hatfield Peverel Village Hall. £5 members, £7 non-members.

Bar and Raffle. Doors open 8pm If you would like any further information on any of the above, please contact Mike on 01621 856219. You can also find us at www.aftereightsocialclub.co.uk

MALDON WYCKE WI

The speaker for the April meeting was Brenda Hasley, and whilst we were singing Jerusalem she judged the competition for a favourite dress/knitting pattern.

She taught herself dressmaking by taking garments apart to see how they were made.

She married at 21 and after contacting and recovering from TB she started advertising for customers to do dressmaking. She had plenty of enquiries from people from all walks of life, including drag artists, cross dressers etc, also many ladies from wellto- do families.

Sheila Rowsell told us that she had sent £100 to George Mills - all donated by our members.

Winners of the flower of the month competition were: 1st Pam Hopper, 2nd Doreen Linton, 3rd Vi Stares. Winners of the favourite pattern were: 1st Valerie Dunn, 2nd Pam Hopper, 3rd Ann Matthews.

Congratulations to Sheila Drain, whose knitted "from a plastic bag" bag came second at the spring group meeting.

Next meeting is on May 15, at 7.45pm. Resolutions with cheese and wine.
