Fire at factory but nobody hurt
FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a blaze which began spreading through a factory.
Crews from Maldon, Witham and South Woodham Ferrers joined forces to put out the fire at the Hencorp factory on the Blackwater Trading Estate, Maldon.
Using breathing apparatus and a hose jet the firefighters managed to extinguish the fire in the extractor system which had started to spread.
Maldon firefighter Martin Cable said: "No one was hurt. It took us three hours to extinguish but the staff were evacuated by the time we got there.
"We continued to re-visit during the evening as it was very dusty and hemp fibres are very combustible."
The fire began at about 1.30pm on Tuesday May 6. A thermal imaging camera was also used at the scene to check for hotspots.
