Maldon: Men attempt to grab young woman near hospital

Young women and girls are on high alert after two men tried to grab a 20-year-old in Maldon.

Police received reports that a woman had been approached by two men in a silver Corsavan in Spital Road, before one of the men reached out of the vehicle and grabbed her.

The woman was coming out of the Tolleyshop off licence, near St Peter’s Hospital, when she was asked for directions to Maldon and Tiptree Football Club, before being pulled towards the car.

She then ran to a friend's house.

Sgt Phil Morley, of Maldon police, has attempted to allay fears.

He said: “I would stress that these sorts of incidents are extremely rare, but the more information we can get about them the better."
