A Burnham sailor hoping to set a new world record when he rows solo across the Atlantic is appealing for sponsorship.

Royal Burnham Yacht Club member Charlie Pitcher, 49, is training hard on the River Crouch as he prepares to travel 3,000 gruelling miles across from Gran Canaria to Barbados in January.

The father-of-four, who is hoping to beat the existing world record of 40 days, nine hours and 44 minutes, is taking on the challenge to raise money for both Great Ormond Street Hospital and The C Group - a charity which supports wounded and in need Royal Marines.

Mr Pitcher is currently seeking sponsorship to help fund the challenge.

Sponsorship packages range from £2,500 to £30,000.
