District: Police horse unit faces axe District: Police horse unit faces axe

Burnham primary school children were some of the last to receive a visit from the police mounted unit before it was axed.

Police horses King and Toffee towered over excited tots at St Mary’s Primary School, Burnham, on October 3.

But new homes will now have to be found for the horses and new jobs for officers and staff after the mounted unit was disbanded for a second time.

All that training going to waste? But then horses are so expensive and I'm sure the police people riding them can't solve many crimes or be in the right place at the right time very often. Do the horses stay as police horses in another area or can the public buy them?
