A Maldon teenager who suffered horrific head injuries after an accident in a play area has begun to make a “miracle” recovery.

Popular Plume School sixth-former Sam Richards was fighting for his life last week after he fractured his skull at a Maldon play area and he was put in an induced coma.

The family had been told he is unlikely to pull through when medics described the 16-year-old’s head injury as the worst they had seen.

But since then Sam has started moving his arms and even opened his eyes.
