Maldon: Woman donate undies to combat poverty
Women across the district are saying “pants” to poverty by donating their bras and knickers to charity.
Members of the Maldon Wycke Women’s Institute and Slimming World are collecting underwear to send to African communities who are too poor to afford it.
They will donate the undies to the Smalls for All charity, who hand them out to those in Africa who need them.
The charity was formed after hygienic and social problems were recognised related to the lack of underwear.
Emma Chapman, of Clayton Way, Maldon, who runs both groups, said: “The lower class of women in Africa cannot afford underwear.
“They are putting themselves in terrible risk of rape and disease."
