Burnham: Chapel saviours plea for legal help
Saviours of a Victorian chapel are urgently seeking free advice from a solicitor to help them agree a lease.
Friends of the Burnham Cemetery Chapel have been tirelessly raising funds to restore the charming Southminster Road building.
The group is currently in the process of agreeing a lease with Maldon District Council, which owns the chapel.
Friends chairman Helen Elliot said: “Unfortunately a lot of work still needs to be done on the lease and we need someone with legal training to help us.
“Unfortunately we are not in a position to pay anyone as we are going to need every penny we raise to repair the chapel.”
The chapel has been disused for about 50 year and among many other improvements, it is in need of re-wiring.
Mrs Elliot said: “Superior Stonecraft in Latchingdon have said they will do all the external stone work free of charge, which is fantastic.”
If you can help the volunteer group, call Mrs Elliot on 01621 785758.
