Maldon district: Thefts drop after trio jailed

Catalytic converter thefts have reduced significantly in the Maldon district since three prolific thieves were jailed.
Maldon’s Sgt Phil Morley, whose bugbear is thefts from vehicles, was pleased with the result but insists residents could do more to help prevent car-related crime.
Speaking of the jailed trio, he said: “We have had a good result with a few people locked up.
“It’s had quite an effect on Maldon.
“They were travelling criminals and were specifically going for catalytic converters.
“They weren’t from our area, but they were travelling to our area and other areas.
“Just basic stuff like reversing the car on to the driveway can help deter catalytic converter thieves.”
