A Heybridge man is fuming after police recovered his stolen motorcycle and then had it impounded with a release fee he was unable to afford.

Former Plume School pupil Daniel Lucas of Goldhanger Road now feels as though he has twice become the victim of a crime after he was unable to pay the release fee and his £500 bike was scrapped.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The owner of the motorcycle was advised of the force’s stolen vehicle recovery policy.

“The fee is fixed by law.”
