England's cricket captain has surprised Maldon’s budding cricketers with a visit to their club.
Former Maldon cricketer Alastair Cook, who was brought up in Wickham Bishops, spent hours training youngsters from nine to 15 at Maldon Cricket Club on Sunday.
Jaws dropped as Mr Cook walked onto the pitch to give tips on throwing techniques.
Club captain Jimmy Ainscough said: “He rarely visits but he came down because he had a window in his schedule.
“He wanted to give something back to the club."
