Vulnerable warned not to miss flu jabs

HEALTH bosses are urging at-risk groups in Tendring not to miss out on their flu jabs.

The over-65s, pregnant women and people with health conditions are being targeted in this year’s north Essex vaccination campaign.

Those with severe asthma, chest or heart complaints and diabetes are advised to book an appointment.

Dr Mike Gogarty, director of public health at NHS North Essex, said: “Flu is not just a cold - it can be a really serious illness for some people and it doesn’t just affect older people.

“The flu jab is completely safe and it can’t give you flu.”

The vaccination is free and carers of at-risk people are also urged to get protected.

The vaccine changes every year so even people who had a jab last winter will need another one.

The best time to be vaccinated is at the start of the flu season from October to November.

To book an appointment contact your GP, or visit www.nhs.uk/flu for more information.
