Thousands of people are again expected to line the streets as the renowned Burnham Carnival returns.

The annual event, one of the most popular in the town’s calendar, has been running for more than 100 years and organisers are promising one of the best yet.

The lead-up to tomorrow's showpiece is already underway, with a quiz night and history talk held at Carnival Hall, in Arcadia Road, earlier this week.

A baby show at Carnival Hall and bingo at the same venue have also taken place.

Carnival day itself begins with a zumba demonstration in the main arena in High Street at 10am tomorrow, before this year’s carnival queen Josie Dines is crowned at 10.30am.

The 999 water games competition between teams from the emergency services follows at 11am, before pupils from local schools take to the carnival stage to entertain the crowd from 11.30am.

A children’s fancy dress competition will take place in the main arena at 2pm and the adult’s later at 6pm.

Both the Blue Falcon gymnastic display team from Chelmer Valley High School and the Essex Dog Display Team will perform, while there will be live music from Rich Clifford And The Young Once at 6.30pm.

The grand finale, the illuminated procession, begins at 7.30pm and will feature floats and carnival queens from across the county and beyond.

A number of stalls will also be manned throughout the day.
