Three more illegal workers have been uncovered after a raid on a Maldon restaurant.

Officers from the UK Border Agency’s local immigration team swooped on the Balti Bhujon, in Mill Road, after being tipped off that people were working at the Indian restaurant illegally.

Three Bangladeshi men, aged 30, 25 and 22, were arrested and checks revealed they had overstayed their visas.

The 22-year-old attempted to flee the scene through a rear window, but was stopped by immigration officers at the back of the restaurant.

The UK Border Agency is now taking steps to remove the three men from the country, while Balti Bhujon faces a fine of up to £30,000 unless it can prove the correct pre-employment checks were carried out.
