A long-awaited new chocolate factory could be years away after the man behind the plans was forced to apply for more time to complete the project.

When planning permission was initially granted in August 2009, it was thought that Chocolate Barns, which is hoped to built on the site of a former poultry farm in Foxhall Road, Southminster, would be ready by Easter 2010.

But after prolonged problems securing the loan needed, Raj Kansal, of Exclusive Chocolates, has now had to apply to Maldon District Council for a five-year extension to the original time limit given for completion of the work.
