A sub-postmaster is warning that post offices in the district could close if the company fails to win a £60million contract.

Jake Singh, manager of the post office in Main Road, Danbury, said it would be a “massive blow” to the network of post offices if the contract was awarded elsewhere.

The situation has come about after the Department for Transport put the DVLA contract for the next financial year out to tender, which will be decided next month.

So far, more than 300 customers in Danbury have signed a petition set up nationwide that is calling on the government to award the contract to the Post Office Limited, which operates the UK’s network of branches.
