Tillingham: Elderly woman didn't die from bee sting

A woman who was thought to have been killed by a bee sting died of natural causes, an inquest heard.

Jean Smyth-Tyrrell, 69, who was allergic to stings, was discovered slumped in a chair at her home in North Street, Tillingham, on May 20.

An inquest in Chelmsford last Thursday heard that there had initially been suggestions that Mrs Smyth-Tyrrell had been stung by a bee, causing a fatal anaphylactic reaction.

But after tests were carried out at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, pathologist Dr Dia Kamel gave the cause of death as ischemic heart disease due to pulmonary artery atheroma.

Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
