A community-run pub has been saved from closure after residents rallied together to raise £15,000 days before the deadline.

Cold Norton residents have been asked to become shareholders in The Norton pub, in Latchingdon Road, by contributing towards the £80,000 deposit.

A week before the deadline on Friday residents were still £15,000 short of their target.

But since then there has been a sudden surge of contributions, thanks to an article in the Standard and a leafleting campaign in Cold Norton.

Paul Guppy, who is on the pub’s organising committee, said: “The money has just come out of the blue.

“But it’s not just about the money, it’s fantastic to know there is a real commitment from local people.”
