Burnham: Four young sailors to take on the world Burnham: Four young sailors to take on the world

Four young Burnham sailors have been picked to represent Team Great Britain at the world sailing championships in Australia.

Nicholas Sutton, 17, Joshua Bennett, ten, Sam Barr, 16, and Ben Barr, 12, all of Meadow Way, won the chance to compete against sailors from across the world after excelling in the national championships in Torquay.

The pairs of brothers, who sail under the flag of Burnham’s Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, sailed 22 races across the year in International Cadet dinghies in an effort to be selected to represent their country.

Nicholas & Joshua’s sailing at the 2012 Trident UK Cadet Nationals competition saw them crowned national champions and secure their place in the world team.

What fine young men! I had just finished reading a rather depressing article about anti-social behaviour in Burnham when I read about these young sailors. This article is uplifting and Burnham must be very proud of these inspirational youngsters. A great article and a great photograph.
