Furious Heybridge councillors and residents alike are up in arms over the plans to build 900 new houses in their village.

Over 50 residents turned up to the Heybridge Parish Council meeting last Thursday to oppose the proposed development - the first time there has been that many since flooding problems in the area in 2006.

Land in Heybridge, together with areas of North Fambridge, Maldon and Burnham, has been earmarked as suitable for homes in the council’s draft Local Development Plan (LDP), which finished its consultation period on Tuesday.

Maldon District Council plans to deliver 3,000 homes between 2014 and 2029, in order to meet housing needs.
