Burnham: Councillors opt to coin it in

Burnham town councillors were given the decision on who to give free commemorative gold coins to - and decided to distribute them amongst themselves.

The council has around 70 gold coins spare from the jubilee celebrations and used last week’s town council meeting to discuss who to give them to.

Town Clerk, David McNeill, said: “I think the town council deliberated on the Jubilee over many many meetings so I see no reason why we can’t have one.”

It was also suggested to give some of the coins to French visitors in October and to members of the British Legion.

The final decision will be made at a future town council meeting.

Disgusting. Only in it for their own benefit. Pass them out to people in the community who deserve them.

A sadly predictable act from what is fast becoming a very troubled council living totally in their own bubble

How much better to give the gold coins as prizes to the top floats in this year's Burnham Carnival. Without the sterling efforts of these volunteers, there would be no Carnival, they deserve our thanks and recognition.

The only thing that surprises me is the amount

Given Burnham Town Council's probable betrayal of the local electors over the threated mega Burnham West development, I'd have thought 30 Pieces of Silver would have been the going rate. A gold coin is a bargain (not)

Burnham shouldn't be too overly concerned with a mere Town Council and a few commemorative coins....You need to worry about District or County, where the real money is....
Thankfully the Honourable Lord Hanningfield wont be helping himself to anymore of Essex's money... although he can still fill his pockets with lucre acquired from the House of Lords...
