North Fambridge: Residents furious over plans to 'double' the size of village

Furious residents are up in arms over plans to more than double the size of their rural village.

Concerns have risen in North Fambridge after Maldon District Council unveiled hopes to deliver 300 homes between 2014 and 2029 in order to help meet the district’s housing growth needs.

Land in North Fambridge, together with areas of Heybridge, Maldon and Burnham, has been earmarked in the council’s draft Local Development Plan, which is under consultation until August 28.

Resident Sam Cater, 45, of Franklin Road, said: “It’s so upsetting, it would double the size of North Fambridge and make it into a mini South Woodham Ferrers.

“It would change the whole character of the village. It will destroy it."
